The objective of the Festival Academia Internacional de Música de Portillo is to study chamber music for string quartets and woodwind quintets, and finish with an orchestra program.

You can apply in two ways:

  • As an individual instrument player, with specific repertoire requirements for your instrument

  • As a member of an existing string quartet or woodwind quintet


  • Open to Chilean and foreign students between 18 and 30 years old

  • Availability during the entire festival



  • Application: from Sunday June 25th to Friday September 1st, 2023

  • Pre-Acceptance Notification: Thursday September 21st, 2023

  • Meeting with pre-accepted students: from Monday September 25th to Saturday September 30th, 2023

  • Acceptance Notification: Thursday October 5th, 2023

  • Confirmation of participation from student: Thursday October 19th, 2023

  • Festival Duration: from Saturday January 13th to Tuesday January 23rd, 2024 (inclusive)


How to apply?

  • Open and fill out the form with all requested information HERE. This form is to be completed by every individual student.

  • In the form, please attach the links to your application videos (one link per piece of music)

  • In the form, please attach your resume and profile in Times New Roman up to 250 words, and also your picture

  • In the form, please attach a picture of your CI or DNI in both sides, or one of your passport

  • You will get an e-mail confirming that all documents have been received. If you don’t, please contact us

  • If you don’t send all this information, you will be automatically left out of the process




  • J. S. Bach, one movement of a sonata or partita of your choice

  • W. A. Mozart, the first movement of a Concerto of your choice, without cadenza

  • One movement of a Romantic Concerto, or a short virtuoso piece of your choice

WOODWIND QUINTETS (at least 10 minutes in total)

It is necessary that accepted students agree with the following regulations:

Students Rights

The scholarship for every accepted student totals USD5.000 (CLP $4.500.000). This scholarship includes classes, lodging, meals, and transportation from and to Santiago.


PortilloFest 2024 starts on Saturday January 13th, at 6:00 PM at Hotel Portillo. A bus will depart at 2:00 PM from Renato Sanchez 4270, Las Condes, Santiago.


The Festival ends with three concerts, one at Hotel Portillo on Sunday January 21st, and the other two in Santiago on Monday January 22nd and Tuesday January 23rd. In Santiago, we will stay at a hotel until Wednesday January 24th morning.

Students Responsibilities

  • You must be on time for the bus. If for any reasons you miss the bus, you will have to get to Hotel Portillo by your own means.

  • The scholarship does not include the payment for tickets from your place to Santiago, or medical insurance.

  • You must send us your medical insurance once you confirm your participation in the Festival.

  • Once you have been selected, and have accepted to participate in the Festival, you must send us a USD$50 warranty for your participation. This will be reimbursed to you once you get to the Festival. If, after you accepted your participation, you decide not to come to the Festival, this warranty will not be reimbursed.


Once the Festival starts, it is necessary to:

  • Attend all classes and be on time

  • Attend all concerts and conversations


As our Festival is committed to excellence on all levels, you have to follow these regulations:

  • During all the Festival, including rehearsals and concerts, students WILL NOT drink alcohol or consume any kind of drugs. If this happens, we will know that the student has decided not to continue in the Festival, and will be taken to Los Andes Bus Station. From here, the student will be able to take a bus to Santiago, or wherever the student considers appropriate. In this case, the Festival will not pay any costs for transportation.

  • When applying to PortilloFest2024, make sure you fully agree with the rights and responsibilities of the Festival.
